Learn about The latest technology in algae class differentiation for determination of green algae, cyanobacteria, unbound phycocyanin (free PC) and more…

  • bbe fluorometers utilize in vivo fluorescence of algae cells to determine both chlorophyll-a content and up to five algae classes simultaneously
  • Each fluorometer is factory calibrated with live algae cultures
  • Measurements are in real-time and highly precise
  • No chemicals, pigment extraction, or sample preparation

Chlorophyll-a & Cyanobacteria

AlgaeTorch Fast & Portable: Switch on, dip in, read off!

bbe AlgaeTorch

In situ measurement of cyanobacteria has never been easier…. Power up, submerge and measure!

The AlgaeTorch is lightweight, field-portable, and designed to measure total chlorophyll and blue-green algae (cyanobacteria). The pigments of the algae are spectrally excited subsequently by three colored LEDs at a high frequency. In response, the algae emit red fluorescence light and the intensity of this light is used for the calculation of the different algae types (i.e. blue-greens and total microalgae). Results are displayed and stored in the internal memory and can easily be transferred to a PC via the USB port for further analysis.

Additional features include:

  • Differentiated blue-green algae detection
  • Easy-to-use cable-free operation
  • Integrated display
  • Datalogger function
  • Excitation using three wavelengths
  • Internal rechargeable batteries
  • Built-in GPS
  • Auto turbidity correction & measurement
  • GPS coordinates
  • Submersible to 10 m, maximum 100 m
  • Online option

Benthic Algae on Substrates

Power up, place the head on your sample,& measure. Get your results in less than 15 seconds!

The lightweight, field-portable BenthoTorch measures benthic algae in real-time and in situ by utilizing fluorometric characteristics of the different algal pigments in the intact cell. No sample preparation is required. Results are displayed and stored in the internal memory and can easily be transferred to a PC via the USB port for further analysis.

Additional features include:

  • Rapid determination of benthic algae
  • Easy-to-use cable-free operation
  • Integrated display
  • Datalogger function
  • Internal rechargeable batteries
  • Auto turbidity correction & measurement
  • GPS coordinates
  • Online option
  • Optional GSM modem
  • Optional water temp & transmission sensors

Depth Profiling for Rapid Detection fo Chlorophyll-a in Phytoplankton

FluoroProbe III For depth profiles of microalgae

bbe FluoroProbe III

FluoroProbe

Optional sensors include:

  • NEW Dissolved oxygen
  • NEW Multiparameter sensor for dissolved oxygen, conductivity & pH
  • Water temperature
  • Pressure

Quick & reliable determination of chlorophyll concentration down to depths of 100 meters — Up to 4 measurements per second!

The FluoroProbe III measurements can be displayed online via a serial interface or stored in the probe for subsequent analysis. In addition to determining the chlorophyll content, the probe also detects the presence of algae and allocates them to various spectral algae classes (i.e. cyanobacteria, green algae, diatoms, chrysophytae, cryptophytae).  This enables the analysis of the occurrence and distribution of e.g. blue-green algae on-site without the necessity of the laboratory.

Automatic correction for yellow substances (CDOM) and turbidity makes for the most reliable chlorophyll determination.

The bbe FluoroProbe is submersible down to a depth of 100m (optionally 1000 m). The measurement data can be displayed in real-time on a PC or be stored in the probe for subsequent evaluation.

Additional features include:

  • Rapid determination of green algae, cyanobacteria, diatoms, and cryptophytes
  • Datalogger function
  • Internal rechargeable batteries
  • Yellow substances & auto turbidity correction
  • GPS coordinates
  • Cable-free option

Depth Profiling for Rapid Detection fo Chlorophyll-a & Unbound Phycocyanin (free PC)

NEW! PhycoProbe For depth profiles of unbound phycocyanin (free PC)

Depth-profile with quick analysis of chlorophyll and unbound phycocyanin concentrations as well as algae classes

bbe PhycoProbe

Optional sensors include:

  • Water temperature
  • Bluetooth

NEW! Depth-profile with quick analysis of chlorophyll and unbound phycocyanin concentrations as well as algae classes — Up to 4 measurements per second!

The bbe PhycoProbe* is a highly sensitive measuring instrument for the in vivo analysis of chlorophyll-a in live algal cultures and cyanobacteria. Additionally, the PhycoProbe measures the amount of unbound phycocyanin (free PC) which reflects the release of blue-green algae contents like toxins as well as flavors and odorous substances.

Algal content and individual profiles for the different algal classes are created in real-time during the measurement twithout the necessity of using a laboratory. Automatic correction for yellow substances (CDOM) and turbidity makes for the most reliable chlorophyll determination.

The bbe PhycoProbe is submersible down to a depth of 100m (optionally 1000 m). The measurement data can be displayed in real-time on a PC or be stored in the probe for subsequent evaluation.

Additional features include:

  • Rapid determination of green algae, cyanobacteria, diatoms, cryptophytes, &amp: unbound phycocyanin (free PC)
  • Datalogger function
  • Internal rechargeable batteries
  • Yellow substances & auto turbidity correction
  • GPS coordinates
  • Cable-free option
