APPLICATION SCIENTIST Full Time

Location: Amesbury, Massachusetts (approx. 40 minutes north of Boston).

General Overview

  • This person will be very active in both technical sales and support of PP Systems’ products, working closely with our engineering and R&D team managing new product development.
  • Frequent communication with scientific researchers and review of scientific literature is required to identify key problem areas in research for the development of new products and applications for existing products.

Main Responsibilities

  • New product development working closely with our engineering team, including product testing and validation.
  • Develop new applications for existing products.
  • Interact closely with customers to develop and maintain application notes related to the use of PP Systems’ products.
  • Respond to incoming calls/emails from customers providing high-level technical and applications-related expertise and support including analysis of data.
  • Participation in exhibitions and workshops (Domestic and International).
  • Preparation and presentation of posters and oral talks related to PP Systems’ products at relevant conferences.
  • Provide technical training sessions for potential and existing customers (in-house and at customer sites).
  • Write and review technical documentation such as operation manuals, test procedures, and application notes.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in a plant and soil science discipline or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years post-doc experience using photosynthesis related instrumentation for measurement of leaf gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence.
  • Experience with data loggers and statistical analysis software
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (English) and demonstrated ability to interact with the scientific community are very important. Ability to speak fluently in other languages a strong plus.

Travel
Some travel (Domestic and International) will be required from time to time.

NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER Full Time

Location: Amesbury, Massachusetts (approx. 40 minutes north of Boston).

General Overview

  • Unique opportunity for an exceptional multidisciplinary engineer to drive the design, test, and manufacture of new instrumentation.
  • The successful candidate will be a working engineer with the expertise and initiative to bring new products from conception to production.
  • This position requires a smart, practical, dedicated, hands-on worker who enjoys taking on many tasks and roles in a very small company environment.

Main Responsibilities

  • Help define new product requirements and specifications
  • Mechanical design of new handheld instruments, enclosures and displays
  • Electronic design and pcb layout
  • Software design and coding for embedded microprocessors in C
  • Incorporation of CE Mark requirements and EMC testing
  • Liaison with outside contract designers as needed
  • All documentation for prototype and production designs (SolidWorks drawings, OrCAD PCB design files, BOMs, Assembly and Test Procedures)
  • Sourcing of components and assembly of first units
  • Verification test of prototypes to product specification
  • Transition new products to production (in-house technicians)

Qualifications

  • BS in electrical or mechanical engineering
  • 10+ years experience in design or manufacturing environment
  • Design experience in small mechanical assemblies and/or instrumentation
  • SolidWorks or other 3D Cad experience
  • Familiarity with analog electronics (design and/or troubleshooting)
  • PCB documentation and layout experience (OrCAD PCB Designer)
  • Working knowledge of C programming
  • Knowledge of, or at least an interest in, plant biology and the environment
